Why visit Cornwall in winter?

With the warm weather well and truly gone and winter settling in, you may be thinking that staycations are best left ’til next year. However, the season of dark evenings in front of the open fire, indulging in scrumptious festive food, whilst being wrapped up in cosy hats, gloves and scarfs is officially here, and what’s not to love about that?

Below we have listed a few of our favourite reasons why winter is a brilliantly magical time to visit Cornwall!

Embrace the peace & quiet

Christmas can be an extremely busy and stressful time of year, and sometimes you need to just have some space to actually relax and unwind, and enjoy the season.  Cornwall is quiet, peaceful and still in the winter.  The summer visitors have gone, and instead of contending with the crowds, you can enjoy solitude on the best beaches, there’s no queues for popular attractions, or battling to find a space in the car parks – you can have Cornwall all to yourself!

The Weather

Yes, really!  We all know that Cornwall in the spring and summer is absolutely stunning, but believe it or not, the colder months have so much to offer too!  As we are lucky enough to have such a plethora of gorgeous landscape and coastline to admire, not only does the frost covered countryside sparkling in the morning sunlight evoke a sense of magic and wonder, Cornwall is also a sight to behold in even the moodiest of cloudy skies.  Adding a sense of drama and wildness to the great outdoors and the stormy coast line.  Cosying up in a coastal café with a steaming hot chocolate and a good book, watching the waves crash down outside, is a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.

The Food

Cornwall is famous for it’s hearty dishes that warm the cockles.  Delicious pasties, mouth-watering pies, tasty fish and chips (with all the trimmings!), and comforting cream teas, are a match made in heaven when combined with Cornwall’s wintery weather and homely atmosphere.  Whether you want to snuggle up in a corner of a cosy pub with a roaring fire, or be blown away by a Michelin star winter menu, there’s so much to discover with Cornwall’s incredibly heart-warming cuisine.  Ask us at reception for our favourite recommendations of restaurants to visit during your stay!

Winter Walks

There’s just something incredibly idyllic and romantic about a winter walk, whether it’s just the two of you going for a brisk stroll before winding up at a local pub for a tasty roast dinner and glass of wine, or the whole family and the dogs exploring the local beaches, and maybe even taking a brave winter dip in the sea!  Wrapped up against the cold in snuggly hats and scarves, a bracing winter walk is so refreshing, and a great way to get some colour in your cheeks. Cornwall is known for its beautiful coastline or woodland rambles, picture perfect villages, and stunning rolling moors, made even more beautiful when glistening in the winter sun, or dusted with a fine coating of snow.  Plus, a blustery winter walk is made all the better when you know you have your cosy holiday accommodation to come back to, especially when a warm bubbling hot tub awaits you too!
