Whether you are staying in one of our holiday accommodations or visiting your local beach, we thought it’s important to remind everyone to enjoy their holiday safely.
- Never bury a barbecue in the sand, and make sure the BBQ has an appropriate stand or non-flammable surface before lighting. Sand cools down on the surface, however, it stores heat for hours and can cause severe burns.
- It is not advisable to place coals or wood on the beach; they can easily burn up and leave nails and other debris as well as causing untold injuries to people who bare feet themselves.
- Wait until the barbecue is completely extinguished with cold water before disposing in beach bins. Keep a bucket of water close by for emergencies.
- Never leave a barbecue unattended
- Make sure you are allowed to BBQ in that area. Disposable BBQs are allowed on Council-owned beaches, whilst gas BBQs are not permitted.
- Analyse your surroundings carefully. Make sure no flammable objects, pets or children are nearby.
