That quiet lull between the busy months of Summer and the rush of Christmas is the ideal time to get away to recharge your batteries.  There are loads of things to do in Cornwall in October, whether you’re a foodie, a festival goer or just love the outdoors.

October is such a fun month in Cornwall. The weather is certainly getting cooler, but we are still making the most of the crisp day-light hours before the clocks go back. The nights may be drawing in but the fun hasn’t stopped, with festivals, events and plenty of Halloween themed fun throughout half-term.  Enjoy the last of the sun before winter sets in – let’s get spooky!

Halloweden at the Eden Project

From 19th October

The Eden Project is one of Cornwall’s top, must-see attractions and just around the corner from the park!  With plenty on offer for all the family this October for their Halloweden Event.  Come face to face with some very unusual animals, including the extremely rare Mongolian Death Worm and the loveable Giant Beast.  See these mythical monsters up close and learn more about them from our specially trained handlers, including the opportunity to ask questions and care for the animals. Get hands-on and make marvelous potions using the finest botanicals and some extra special secret ingredients, plus join a pumpkin carving master class.  Or why not take part in their “Owl Encounters” and learn all about these magnificent creatures, with their friends from Screech Owl Sanctuary.

Pre-bookable relaxed sessions will available for children with autism spectrum condition, sensory and communication needs, or learning disabilities, who may benefit from a more informal experience. Falmouth Oyster Festival

9th – 13th October

Cornwall’s best loved culinary event celebrates the start of the Falmouth oyster dredging season.

Now in it’s 23rd year, Falmouth Oyster Festival on Weds 9th – Sun 13th Oct, is Cornwall’s best loved culinary food festival. The annual festivities celebrate the start of the Falmouth oyster dredging season, one of the last remaining oyster fisheries to use traditional methods, sail and oar to dredge the native Fal Oyster.  Daily cookery demonstrations are held during the festival by top chefs and food experts from Cornwall’s hotels and restaurants, inspiring visitors to try their hand at unusual and exciting seafood combinations and indulge in the taste of native oysters, wines, ales and local produce. The programme includes live music, Cornish food produce, arts and crafts, real ale, champagne and wine bars, oyster and seafood bars, Working Boat race, Grand Oyster Parade, shucking competition and a Grand Oyster Draw.

Spooky Halloween Quiz & Kids Disco Paradise Park

From 19th October

There’s lots on offer at Paradise Park this October!  The popular Kid’s Halloween Disco returns from 3-6pm on Friday 25th October with fancy dress competition, spooky food and pumpkin soup!  Plus enjoy taking part in Paradise Park’s new Halloween Quiz.  Why not join in the Pumpkin Hunt too and follow the pumpkin trail, as you creep around the Park to win a spooky reward…

Other daily events include Otter feeding and the opportunity to meet one of their friendly penguins at the ‘photocall’ session after the Penguin feeding.  For more details of the daily events please click here.

Zombie Walk, Newquay, Cornwall

Takes place on 26th of October

This is a fantastically fun community event, where the town unites and dresses up in spooky outfits for Halloween!  Starting at 1pm with Titan the Robot, followed by a family party at the Cribbar, with face-painting too. The ghouls set off down Newquay High-street at 3pm from Gover Lane to through the town centre and up to the Hotel Victoria, where you are all invited to come on in for a FREE family disco featuring dancers, entertainers as well as another performance from Titan the Robot!

Discover the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic

Although this attraction does sound like it should be included in our ‘Halloween’ section, the Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Boscastle is truly worth visiting at any time of year…  Open from the 1st of April to the 31st of October, this charmingly spooky independent museum has plenty of fascinating exhibitions and displays ranging from past to present, from British to other cultural practices.
